PM stands for Particulate Matter, and PM 2.5 describes tiny particles which have a diameter of 2.5 micrometers and smaller. Some particles are large enough to be seen with the human eye while many are undetectable. The air can be polluted with unhealthy levels of these fine particles, and consequently pose a health risk.

HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air (filter) and is known as the industry standard in air filtration. This type of air filter can remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns (µm).
